Oaxaca

The first Spaniards arrived to Oaxaca less than half a year after the fall of the Aztecs of Tenochtitlan, in November of 1521, as this was a land of great fame for gold, cochinilla dye, corn, chiles… etc. it was soon after, on April 25, 1532 that the initial settlement was elevated to the rank of City and was named Antequera. Today elegant structures from the XVI century onwards have elevated Oaxaca City to the category of World Heritage by the UNESCO since 1987. Exploring the city, you will find over 28 colonial churches, a choice of museums of Anthropology & History, Textiles, Modern Art, Old Silver collection…etc, colorful markets, renowned restaurants, amazing street food, picturesque neighborhoods, an Ethnobotanic garden… etc.
