Monte Alban & Atzompa – Full day tour
This is a full day tour to the grandest of all the ancient Zapotec cities, Monte Alban was built on top a ridge that divides the three central valleys of Oaxaca. This ancient city covered at its peak over 20 km2 and had over 30,000 inhabitants. Zapotecs developed intricate writing & dating systems that remain in many stone stelae, built palaces, ball courts… etc.
After a rest & drinks and/or lunch, continue visiting the newly excavated ancient city of Atzompa, on top of the hill of the same name. there have been uncovered 2 ball courts, residential palaces, an old stone quarry among several areas to visit.
To end the day, visit in the village of Atzompa a a Master potter, winner of the National Prize of Science & Arts of Mexico that makes unique pieces based on community & Mesoamerican leyends.
