Day of the Dead in Patzcuaro

This is a guided tour to visit cemeteries & homes where local families celebrate the welcome to the dead souls in Michoacan. Lake Patzcuaro area is one of the best locations to watch this celebration when families can be found gathering at the graveyards with candles, food, music, flowers, bread, cookies, candy, toys, pets, etc. in order to stay there overnight!

My tour starts in Patzcuaro visiting smaller towns around the Lake, watching the welcome of the dead souls & participating in the celebration with the locals.

Patzcuaro: The flower market by the main church square in town is a must stop in downtown.

Tzintzuntzan: Probably the most popular cemetery to visit for the night. The local “panteon” (cemetery) goes back to life in many ways. This is your time to meet the locals and find out the meaning of the celebration next to the families coming to stay overnight right there!

Capula: One of the important stops in this tour is the artisan’s town where the famous “Catrinas” are painted by hand! The local market goes colorful with all the different Catrinas on exhibition.
