CHRISTMAS IN OAXACA

RADISH NIGHT

On December 23rd Oaxaca has its annual amazing Radish Festival. This is aunique fiesta in which farmers, artisans and anyone talented make the most elaborate and beautiful ornaments using only fresh radishes and tooth picks to join pieces with which they make churches, dance scenes, portraits of famous heroes…etc and also there are contests of the same style in Totomoxtle (Corn Husk) and Immortal Flowers. 

Every year on December 24th Oaxaca celebrates de Nativity with special “Calendas” which are floats that are beautifully decorated by the congregations of all our churches and lead out with brass bands, giants dancing, fireworks, all arriving to our main plaza where everyone gathers to enjoy this very festive celebration… Come join the fun!
