Los Chinelos

Visiting the towns of “Tepoztlán” and “Tlayacapan,” enjoying the dance of the “Chínelos,” which originated around 1870. These dances are part of the Carnival festivities, a special time when indigenous people could disrupt the social order, expressing their resistance and creativity through satire, mocking Europeans with exaggerated costumes, characterized by their bearded masks and tall hats, creating their own celebration, known as the “brinco de los huehuenches” (jump of the old men). Accompanied by wind music bands.
